Does your be-loved pearl or bead necklace or bracelet need repair or restringing?

We offer a full high quality pearl and bead restringing service.  All pearls are removed from the original silk and cleaned by hand prior to rethreading onto new silk.  Your beads and pearls can be restrung as a plain strand or knotted between each element.  There is a range of stringing supplies, such as silk, nylon and steel wire, we can use depending on the material of the item to be repaired.  For example, if your material happens to have sharp edges or is rather heavy, we would incorporate one of our other stringing options to ensure that it is long lasting and strong.  If you are in need of a new clasp, we are happy to supply silver or gold clasps for single strands to multiple.  All restringing work is generally completed in approximately one week and is covered by a 1 year guarantee.

How to organise your repair…

Email, phone or message me to discuss the repair and any further details.  Post your piece using special or recorded delivery so that it can be tracked.  Once your item is completed, you will receive photo’s and payment can be made by, BACS or *credit card via PayPal (please remember to add return postage) and your renewed piece will be promptly returned to you via special delivery.

Charges for restringing:

Unknotted items are charged at £1.50 per inch.  (e.g. a 20” item = £30.00 + £8.15 return delivery)

Knotted items are charged at £2.00 per inch.  (e.g. a 20” item = £40.00 + £8.15 return delivery)

Note:  Clasp and finding cost will depend upon requirements for the repair and you will be fully informed prior to any work starting.

For those clients who would like a new creation from some of your original beads, we are happy to offer a restyling service or if you would just like to incorporate certain colours, textures or beads into your existing jewellery.

As a guideline for pearl restringing, you should probably get your pearls restrung every 1-2 years or so. If you wear your pearls rarely, once a month or less, then restringing every three or four years will usually suffice.

With strands of pearls, dirt and grease eventually get in between the pearls and attacks the material upon which they are threaded.  As time goes by, the thread will look discoloured, tired and worn.  With the thread weakening, the chance of it stretching and eventually breaking increases greatly.

As with most things in this world, the ‘life’ of an object depends on how well it is looked after.  Depending on how often you wear your pearls and how well they are cared for after use will determine the necessity for pearl restringing.

Pearls are normally strung with closely tied knots between each pearl to minimise wear and tear by separating each pearl from the next and also giving the necklace the maximum amount of flexibility. The pearl stringer is able to choose from numerous weights of silk to suit individual pearl sizes and weights, as well as a huge variety of other stringing materials and colours to match beads and coloured stones.
